Albertus Magnus College Announces 2023 Alumni Award Recipients
Presented to Alumni for Positive Impact on Others Both Personally and Professionally
New Haven, Conn., October 3, 2023 – Albertus Magnus College is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Alumni Awards. The Alumni of the Year and the Premier Achievement Award recognize the achievement of excellence in making an impactful difference in the lives of others. The ceremony will take place during the Alumni Award Ceremony at 6pm on Wednesday, November 8 in the Behan Community Room at the Hubert Campus Center.
- The Alumni of the Year Award is presented to a living member of the Alumni Association who has attained preeminence in their life through outstanding professional, scholarly, and artistic achievement; who is devoted to serving others through volunteer and community service; or who has manifested extraordinary loyalty and dedication to Albertus.
- The Premier Achievement Award is presented to a living member of the Alumni Association who has graduated from Albertus within the last 10 years and who has either excelled professionally within the community or has shown extraordinary loyalty to the College.
Dr. Mary Schaefer Badger ’75
Dr. Mary Schaefer Badger ’75, a resident of Spokane, Washington, is the 2023 recipient of the Alumni of the Year Award. Dr. Badger retired after 31 years as an Internal Medicine Specialist. Dr. Badger has been a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists since 1993 and in 2013, joined a select group by becoming a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
While a student at Albertus, she was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in American
Colleges and Universities and since then has gone on to receive numerous awards including
one of Spokane’s Best Physicians in 2018, 2019, and 2020 and the USPHS Distinguished
Service Award.
During the COVID pandemic, Dr. Badger came out of retirement to help the Medical Reserve
Corps of Eastern Washington State in their immunization program and still volunteers
with that group for Spokane County emergencies. As Chair of the American College
of Osteopathic Medicine Committee on Climate and Health, Dr. Badger has continued
to lecture on this topic at local and national medical meetings.
Stacie Hurley ’17
Stacie Hurley ’17, a resident of East Haven, is the 2023 recipient of the Premier Achievement Award. Hurley is currently the Vice President of Compliance and Quality Management of Aware Recovery Care, a pioneer in the mental health and substance use disorder treatment industry. She was recently named one of The Top 50 Women Leaders of Connecticut for 2023.
Hurley is a former member of the Alumni Association Advisory Board and participated in Career Services’ first-ever “Table Talks” this past March.
While a student at Albertus, Hurley was in the Honors Program and served as Honors Program President. She was also very involved as an orientation leader, peer mentor, and President of the Student Alumni Association for two terms. Her early leadership awards include the CASE 2017 District I Outstanding Student Leader.
